Sadie's Baptism

We baptized the little one a week ago. Father Wayne did the ceremony - he's the same priest who married us and baptized Aidan, but he has moved for his first pastoral appointment to West Columbia. We miss him. He likes to baptize babies by immersion, so for that part, she was nekkid as a jay bird, and not happy about it.

My sister Jennifer and her husband John are Sadie's godparents, but only Jennifer was able to come in from San Diego. Left John with their 4 kids for the weekend - how very brave of them all.

Sadie's hair and dress still smell like the holy chrism. Father Wayne is not shy when it come to the annointing! She looked beautiful in her little dress. Her shoes wouldn't stay on, but oh well.

Anyway, here are some pics:

nice a/c

yes, we did get the a/c up and working, once the nice lady finally stopped being difficult. how did people ever survive without it???

so i've gotten some updates from some of my tcu friends lately - and one of them mentioned that there is quite a bit of construction going on on campus there. i went and took a snapshot from their webcam - the frog fountain area, for those of you who are at all familiar with it, now looks like this:

i was a little worried when i saw the pic that they had torn out foster, our residence hall, but it's still there. the website also informed us that frog fountain, which, as lisa put it, was/is the "soul and center" of campus, will be reinstalled in a new pool at the other end of the commons area when it is complete. y'all should go check out the site to see how nice it's gonna be.

un freaking believeable. the saga continues....

so the new company i called now calls me back, and says they are in the kingwood area (which, if you know the houston metro area, is about an hour and fifteen away from where i live in pearland). they won't service my area. great. so i call the warranty company back to see if there's anyone else i can try. this time the lady tells me that it is company policy to wait for four hours before giving another referral to a different company, so that the first one has a chance to call back and make the appointment. what!? i explain that i already have an appointment, it's not soon enough. when i called back and got another service company number, no one made me wait four hours. why all of a sudden is this four hours so important? i've spoken with both places, everyone has had a chance for my business, i'm still hot and it's not going to get cooler, what's the hold up? she puts me on hold to talk to her supervisor. she gets back on and tells me that she has to verify that i really do have an appointment booked for tuesday before she can try another company - it's not that they don't believe me, its' just company policy. policy schmolicy. at this point, i asked her when she started the four hour clock, because i know it's been four hours since i first called the first people - they took two hours to call me back, which shouldn't count against me!!! anyway, she gets back on the line and says she's called and verified my appointment, and has called the kingwood one and now needs to hear back from them to verify that i actually spoke with them. unbelieveable!!! so i'm here waiting for her to make sure i'm not lying about calling these people, and when she's done with that she'll call me back and give me someone else to call. by that time, i'm sure it will be 5:00 and everyone will be gone for the day. perfect.

why is it that the things that are supposed to make life easier always end up making it more difficult?!?!
oohh it is so terrible to have your a/c go out when you live in houston. it's 103 degrees today, and 80 degrees inside my house.

i have been on the phone all morning (home w/kiddos today b/c cha cha is at a dr. appt) with the mortgage company, home warranty company, and a/c service companies. why is everyone so stupid? i had to call the mortgage co to get the name of the warranty company, since we pay for it through the mortgage every month. that took forever, b/c the girl kept telling me they don't have record of the warranty, which couldn't be true, since they take my money for it every month. she finally found the name and gave it to me. i called this number, and no one there had a clue what i was talking about. sent me to another number, nothing. turns out this is an insurance and warranty broker, not the actual company i pay money to. explains why i wasn't in their system. called the mortgage people back, and they come up with another name of an actual warranty company. good. called them, they give me a claim number and the number of a service company. called them, and everyone is in a meeting, they will call me back. two hours later, i call and leave another message. a few minutes later, they call back, and tell me that they can't come out until next tuesday. five days. you are out of your damn mind. so i call the warranty company back to see if they can give me another service company. at this point, the girl on the phone says, actually, your warranty expired in july, so you are free to call whomever you want. excuse me? why have i still been paying for a warranty that is expired? she sends me to an enrollment agent to renew my warranty, so i can get someone out here to fix the durn a/c - we're having company this weekend, for crying out loud. the agent gets on the phone, looks me up and says, no, your contract automatically renewed through your mortgage company, so you are covered. i'm fuming at this point. i told him, fine, can you tell the lady who sent me to you that i do have a current contract, and that it's ok to send someone out here to fix my a/c! umm, sure..hold on. i stay on hold for five minutes and 22 seconds - yes i timed it. finally another agent gets on the line and processes my claim, talking to me like none of this has happened, and she has no idea why i'm annoyed and short with her. gives me a new service company to call. so i just called, and guess what - no one answers! awesome! i left a message, so we'll see. why does this have to be so difficult?

this time i did it!!

after aidan was born, i got my hair cut just above my shoulders, to get it out of the way, and keep his grabby little fingers from getting all tangled in it. i've been thinking about trying a short short cut, and this time around, i didn't chicken out, and i got it all cut off!!

aidan was so funny when i came home, i don't think he recognized me! then he slowly got this big grin on his face, and he grabbed his own hair and said mamama!! and laughed at me. jerry and the older two said it looks good. noah says i look like the mom on "suite life of zach and cody" and jerry says i remind him of brittany daniels (which is good, because i know he thinks she's hot.)

so i'm getting used to it. i was really liking it until i realized it's very similar to this really annoying girl at work, and i hope people don't think i look like her now.

Anyway, i've gotten lots of compliments, so i think it looks good, not just a dowdy mommy hair cut. here's a pic, and i included sadie in it just for kicks.

ok, the pic won't post for some reason. so go here to see....http://thedavilas.smugmug.com/gallery/1772445/1/87996762

warning - welcome to my astros rant!!

those of you who snore through televised baseball only when forced to, go ahead and click the "next blog" button now.

So anyone who knows me knows that one of the other things i'm passionate about is baseball. and i have been an astros fan since i can remember. so this year, they're just killing me! after making it to the world series, and then losing the closest sweep ever (don't get me started) why do they have to be so mediocre now? all year, jerry and i have been screaming at the tv whenever they put qualls or miller in for relief. and lidge is just done. he and garner can deny it all they want, but ever since he was "pujoled" in the nlcs game 5, he has lost his confidence and has been a shadow of his former self. boy i'd give anything to have wagner back, but you know neither he nor the management will ever let bygones be bygones and try to team up again...

the trade deadline is past, and some are upset that we didn't get another bat, but really all we need is for the bats we have to be more consistent, and the bullpen to stop leaking like a sieve. get rid of qualls, miller, lidge, and springer (who i only like for plunking bonds!!) and let wandy and nieve try their hand at relief. borkowski and wheeler can stay. and all the idiots who say we should have traded everett are just that - idiots. he saves more runs with his defense than anyone one the market could add, in my opinion. and he's getting there with the bat. just give him one more season, and i think he'll come into his own. he's not going to produce like jeter and a-rod, but he doesn't have to. his defense is really that good. the guys we have can hit, they just need to start doing it. huff was a good acquisition - i think ensberg has had his head up his butt for the whole season, and will probably lose his job to huff. and lamb, although i like him, should probably be traded next year too, only because we don't have room for him in the outfield, and he hits too well to be relegated to pinch hitting duty.

it's looking like a no go for the playoffs this year, but hey, stranger things have happened (like last year!)

go stros!!!!!!!
